Kenneth N. Swezey
Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section

New York City attorney Kenneth N. Swezey (Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard, LLP), has been elected Chair of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). 

Swezey received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, summa cum laude, and earned his law degree from UCLA Law School Swezey received an M.B.A. from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.

Swezey, a partner of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard, LLP, is a transactional attorney concentrating in entertainment, digital media, copyright, publishing and corporate law, with clients ranging from well-known licensing agencies, digital media companies, bloggers, software developers, publishers, authors, literary agents, literary estates, visual artists and national not-for-profit organizations.

A longtime member of the State Bar Association’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section, Swezey currently serves on its Executive Committee as Vice Chairman.  Swezey is a member of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A, and is a frequent speaker and panelist on digital media and copyright issues.  He regularly conducts publishing negotiation seminars for Columbia University School of Law students.

The Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section is one of 23 sections of the NYSBA. These groups publish material dealing with their fields of expertise, much of which is not available through commercial publishers. Sections also sponsor conferences, seminars and institutes, monitor legislation and conduct studies. Each of the sections contributes to policy-making, both in their subject areas and Association-wide. They originate many of the recommendations that become NYSBA policy positions and act as checks and balances of other entities.
