Hon. Joseph J. Cassata of Tonawanda
(Tonawanda City Court) has been elected chair of the Judicial Section of
the New York State Bar Association.
Cassata received his undergraduate degree from the
State University of New York at Buffalo
and earned his law degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Cassata has served as a city court judge since 1996.
He is a National Certified Drug Court Treatment Judge. From 1974 to
1995, he served as a city attorney and legal counsel to the mayor,
common council, and all city departments and boards in Tonawanda. Cassata
was in private practice for 30 years.
A veteran member of the Judicial Section’s
Executive Committee, Cassata currently serves as the assistant presiding
member of the section. He was a member of the Real Property
Section.
Cassata served as president of the New York State
Association of City Court Judges. He previously chaired the Local Courts
Advisory Committee of NYS. He is a member of the Erie County and City of
Tonawanda bar associations.
