Alan J. Knauf
Environmental Law Section
Alan J. Knauf of Rochester (Knauf Shaw LLP) has been elected chair of
the Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Knauf received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and earned his law degree from University of Michigan Law
School.
Knauf is a partner of Knauf Shaw LLP, concentrating his practice in
environmental, municipal, land use and real estate law, and civil
litigation and appeals, representing municipalities, citizens,
landowners and businesses in issues including hazardous waste and oil
spill cleanup, brownfield development, environmental impact review,
water pollution and wetlands, zoning and planning, project siting,
alternative energy, municipal law, and commercial real estate.
An active member of the Environmental Law Section, Knauf is co-chair
of the Section’s Internet Coordinating Committee. He previously
co-chaired the Section’s Committee on Toxic Torts and the Task
Force on Navigation Law, Petroleum and Related Issues. He is also a
member of the Municipal Law Section.
Within the Monroe County Bar Association, Knauf was the founding
chair of the Monroe County Bar Association’s Environmental Law
Committee, past chair of its Real Estate Council and former president of
its Young Lawyers Section. He is a member of the American Bar
Association’s Section on Environment, Energy and Resources. He
also maintains the New York Environmental Law Center Web site, an
information resource for information on New York Environmental Law.
Knauf is also an Adjunct Professor at the Rochester Institute of
Technology, teaching Practical Environmental, Health & Safety Law
and Emergency Preparedness Law. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America
for Environmental Law and Land Use and Zoning Law, and as a Superlawyer
in the areas of Environmental Law, Land Use/Zoning and Real Estate
Law.
