Statement by New York State Bar Association President Vincent E. Doyle III
on Appointment of Members to Joint Commission on Public Ethics

“Today’s appointments move New York a step closer to realizing the promise of the 2011 Public Integrity Reform Act.

“Enactment of a forceful ethics law was a top priority for the State Bar in 2011.  In January, our House of Delegates urged the Governor Cuomo and the Legislature to overhaul the existing ethics law.  We are pleased that the new law includes creation of an ethics commission to oversee the employees of both state agencies and Legislature.

“By enhancing government transparency and accountability, the new law will go a long way toward restoring trust in government.”
