Whitelisting Instructions

To better ensure delivery of NYSBA email messages to your inbox, instructions for whitelisting NYSBA email appear below.

Step 1: Add us to your address book
Step 2: Desktop Level Whitelisting
Step 3: Server level Whitelisting (for your server administrators)

Step 1: Add us to your address book

Recipients should add the following address to their contacts: nysbamail@nysba.org. While other addresses may be used from time to time, this is the primary address for outgoing NYSBA broadcast emails.

The Association’s president may send messages periodically. The president’s email address will be her/his first initial, followed by last name, @nysba.org (e.g. jdoe@nysba.org).

Step 2: Desktop-Level Whitelisting

Here's how to Whitelist NYSBA.org on several popular email services:

AOL Hotmail Outlook Other

Instructions for AOL Users: 
    First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.

  • Click on the "Mail" menu or the "Mail Center" icon.
  • Under "Mail Preferences" click "Customize your e-mail" and click "Next."
  • Under "Essentials" click "Spam Controls" and click "Next."
  • Check the following settings:
    • "Mail filtered by AOL's Advanced Spam Filter" is ON
    • "Mail with clickable Hyperlinks (URLs)" is ON
    • "Mail containing words and phrases on my Custom Word List" is OFF
    • "Block mail containing pictures or files" is OFF
  • Select either:
    • "Allow mail from all senders." You're all done!
    • OR "Use a Custom Sender list," Continue on to Step 6
  • Click the "Custom Sender List" link in the "Use a Custom Sender List" option.
  • Select "Allow only domains and senders listed below."
  • In the space provided, enter "nysba.org" and click "Add."
  • You may want to add other domains and addresses for other senders you wish to whitelist.
  • Click "Save," then "Save to Apply these Mail Controls."

Instructions for Earthlink Users: 
First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.
The steps for adding and removing Companies (Domains) vary
depending on whether you are using classic or Enhanced Web Mail.
Classic Web Mail 

  • Click the Address Book link in the left pane, below your Inbox and other mail folders.
  • Choose Companies (Domains) from the menu next to the Add button.
  • Click the Add button.
  • Type the Company (Domain) in the text field (nysba.org).
  • Click Allow This Company (Domain).

Enhanced Web Mail 

  • Click the Address Book tab in the Folders/Address Book Pane.
  • Click the New button at the bottom of the pane.
  • Choose Add/Edit Company (Domain).
  • When the Companies (Domains) panel opens, click the Add button.
  • Type the Company (Domain) in the text field (nysba.org).
  • Press your Enter or Return key.

Instructions for Google gMail Users: 
First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.

  • Log in to your account and click the Options icon in the upper right corner & select "Settings"
  • Click the "Filters" tab, then "Create a new filter."
  • Enter "nysba.org" in the "From" field.
  • Click "Next Step," and make sure "Never send it to Spam" is checked.
  • Click "Create Filter" to save your changes.

Instructions for Hotmail: 
First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.

  • Log in to your account and click "Options," then, "More Options."
  • Click "Safe and blocked senders" from the "Junk e-mail" section.
  • Click on "Safe senders" link, and in the space "Sender or domain to mark as safe," enter "nysba.org"
  • Click "Add" to save your changes.

Juno/Netzero Subscribers:

  • Click Options and select Junk Mail.
  • In the Do Not Block section, you can type an address in the box (or copy and paste it) under Add Address to Do Not Block List.
  • Click the Add button to add the address to the list on the right.
  • When you are finished, click the Save button.

Instructions for MSN Users: 
First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.

  • Log in to your account and click "Help & Settings."
  • Click "Email Settings," then "Safe List."
  • Enter "nysba.org" in the "Add an item to this list."
  • Click "Add" to save your changes.

Outlook 2003/2007:

  • From your inbox select Actions then select Junk Email and click on Junk Email Options Address Book.
  • Click the Safe Senders tab.
  • Type in or cut and paste the supplied return email address into the block area, and then click the OK button.

Outlook 2010:

  • Go to the Inbox and right-click on the sender you wish to whitelist.
  • In the 'Home' table, choose the drop down button by 'Junk' and select 'Never Block Senders Domain'
  • Click OK.

Instructions for Verizon Users

  • In your Inbox, clicking “Options”
  • Select the “Block Senders”, a tab near the top of the screen.
  • On the “Block Senders” screen, there is both a “Block Sender List” and a “Safe List”. In the space where it says, “Enter e-mail address or sub domain to always accept even if the domain is blocked”, enter "nysba.org"
  • Click “OK”

Instructions for Yahoo Mail: 
First, check your "Spam" or "Junk Mail" folder to see if the message is there.

  • Log in to your webmail account and click "Mail Options," then "Filters."
  • Click the "Add" button to create a new filter.
  • Enter "nysba.org" in the text box for the "From Header."
  • Select "Inbox" for the "Move the message to" selection.
  • Click "Add Filter" to save your changes.

Other

Most e-mail providers, ISPs, and e-mail software packages have either a contact or personal address book where you can create a new entry. If your provider did not appear in the above list or if you have any questions not answered in our instructions, please contact your Internet Service Provider directly for additional help.

Step 3: Server level Whitelisting Instructions

If you find you are not receving e-mails from The New York State Bar Association, please send this information to your email or server administrators:

  • Email Service Provider: Real Magnet (www.realmagnet.com)
  • Sending address is typically nysbamail@nysba.org
  • The sending server is: 209.18.93.2
    NOTE: This IP is a sub-domain of magnetmail.net (mail*.magnetmail.net).
  • The return path is: mmreturn@magnetdev.com (66.70.25.24)
