Non-residents network at ABA
By Claudia Torrey

With the American Bar Association Annual Meeting as the backdrop, approximately 85 responses were received for the Non-Resident Member Networking Reception held at the Sheraton New York Hotel in New York on August 10, an approximate 25 percent increase over last year’s reception in San Francisco. Rain, thunderstorms, and hail in some areas, did not deter reception attendees.

New York State Bar Association President Bernice K. Leber of New York (Arent Fox LLP), President-elect Michael E. Getnick of Utica (Getnick, Livingston, Atkinson, Gigliotti & Priore, LLP), six former Association presidents and Executive Director Patricia K. Bucklin mingled with attendees from Poland, Japan, Alabama, New Jersey, the United Kingdom, Ohio, Australia, Sweden, Ghana, Connecticut, South Africa, Canada, Liberia, Armenia, and Massachusetts. Good food, take-home gifts, and door prizes made for a very eclectic and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

This was the third reception for non-resident members held in conjunction with an ABA meeting. The receptions are co-sponsored by the Association’s Bar Services Department and the Committee on Membership’s Subcommittee on Non-Resident Membership.

Torrey is chair of the Committee on Membership’s Subcommittee on Non-Resident Membership.
