| "I would like to see the following improvements: 1. Requirement
of email contact for all NYSBA communications and vendors: Most NYSBA
communications, and almost all vendor (insurance, support services, etc)
communications list only a telephone number as the contact. Non-resident
members often reside on the other side of the world, and having to
telephone someone for information means making a telephone call at
midnight or 5AM. Every advertisement or request for comment in NYSBA
materials should include a working email address for communication. 2.
Move from mailings to email digest "pushed" to non-resident members:
NYSBA mailings often arrive overseas well after the deadline date for
opportunities. I would prefer receiving an HTML-formatted email each
month giving the table of contents of all publications that would
otherwise be mailed to me, allowing me to click on topics that interest
me. The email must be sent to me and it must include detailed heading
information; just telling a member "check out your new newsletter" is
inadequate for busy people. Of course, the NYSBA will save money not
having to mail publications overseas. 3. The new non-resident’s
page should contain a link to the CLE rules, which are often difficult
for overseas non-residents to fulfill (no local providers). The page
should contain necessary documents in PDF form, such as the NY State
courts attorney registration form, which often gets lost in the mail. 4.
List of all NYSBA committees, their charters/areas of competence, and
email contact for the chair person. If this information is available on
the Web site, I could not find it. Non-residents have less opportunity
to "ask around" to find a committee doing work in a field of interest to
them. Committees and their chair persons are part of the NYSBA
organization and as such their scope of work and contact information
should be easily available. I appreciate the opportunity to help the
NYSBA serve its nonresident members.” July 10, 2006
“I
would like to see listings of employment opportunities. As
a New York lawyer living out of state, I am interested in returning
to New
York and need assistance in networking and
employment. Thank you.” July 11, 2006
“Just to say,
it is a good idea to think of us, happy expats. Each time you see
something that can apply cross-border put it on the page (think taxes
for ex.). Thanks and best regards.” July 11,
