Essay Contest Opportunity for grades 7 and 8
The Law, Youth and Citizenship Program of the New York State Bar Association will provide a classroom set of hard cover books of Robert H. Jackson for the first 15 schools that send an email to lyc@nysba.org stating a commitment to having their class/classes participate in the 2009 NY state essay contest.  Include school name, contact person and school address in your email.  Upon receipt of that email, the school will be sent an examination copy of the book, a letter of commitment, and planning materials. Class sets of books are available now, and final contest materials will be available in September, 2008.  Contest theme, standards and entry form will be posted on the www.lycny.org and www.roberthjackson.org sites.

Robert H. Jackson Center Essay Contest

Theme:  How did Robert H. Jackson’s life show us how to protect the civil and human rights of others? 

Task:  Using Robert H. Jackson:  New Deal Lawyer, Supreme Court Justice, Nuremberg Prosecutor by Gail Jarrow and other sources of information about the life of Robert H. Jackson, write an essay of between 300 and 500 words.  Be sure to use information from the book as well as other historic examples to support the theme.
