Information about MTSI
Mock Trial Summer Institute 2012 is a week long intensive educational
experience for those students that apply and are chosen to attend.
48 students from across the state are chosen to attend this unique
opportunity to learn, practice, and show off their Mock Trial
skills.
The cost to attend MTSI is $250.00 per student. This fee covers
room and board, the YMCA membership fees for the week, and all
materials. There is financial assistance for those students who
meet certain hardship qualifications. Contact Stacey Whiteley at
swhiteley@nysba.org if you have
questions or wish to request financial assistance.
MTSI will take place at
theYMCA site of Silver
Bay, NY. Silver Bay is an inclusive
residential camp situated on the northwestern shore of Lake George. The students will reside in
dorm styled rooms, two or three students to a
room.
The students will be
split into teams of 6, with a counselor/coach assigned to each
group. The group will be responsible
for the preparation of a case for presentation on Friday
morning. The goal is to incorporate the
new skills and techniques taught throughout the week into the case
preparation and presentation.
Through out the week
various sessions will take place to address the many facets of Mock
Trial including how to read the case, opening statements, direct and
cross examinations, team building, and body
language. Attorneys, judges, teachers,
and an actor are brought in to provide instruction to the
students.
Time is built into the
schedule for the students to work on the case, enjoy the camp’s
amenities, and to relax. There are also
structure group games and activities to promote comradery and
sportsmanship.
