New York State Council for the Social Studies Conference Feb. 28 - March 2, 2013 at the Westchester Hilton in Rye Brook, New York Information & registration can be found at www.nyscss.org SPECIAL NOTE from NYSCSS: If you plan on reserving a hotel room at the Hilton Westchester for the upcoming NYSCSS/NYS4A 75th Anniversary Convention on Feb. 28 - March 2, please do so ASAP.  The hotel had originally set Jan. 30 as the deadline for making room reservations.  However, there are still some rooms left in the block of rooms that was set aside for Convention attendees so the Hotel has generously agreed to extending the deadline until Friday, Feb. 8.  Please do not hesitate any longer in making a reservation if you were intending to do so.  Another group would like access to more rooms, so please take the hotel deadline seriously.  Convention rate hotel rooms can be accessed online at http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/groups/personalized/R/RYEHIHH-NYSCSS-20130224/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG

At the conference, we welcome you to join us for the following activities sponsored by the Law, Youth and Citizenship Program:

• Stop by our table in the Exhibit Hall.  Information will be available about our programs to support law and civic education throughout New York State, including Mock Trial.  Mary Miller, director of the New York News Publishers Association, will be available at the table to share information related to the Newspapers in Education Program.
  Information will also be available about the annual Law and Civic Education Summer Institute to be held at Northport High School (late June, 2013) in partnership with Project PATCH.
  
• We invite you to attend two unique workshops with law-related educator David Scott:

Friday, March 1; 9:30 am - 10:30 am - "Student Voice in the Digital Age," a
discussion of First Amendment issues and students' rights/civic
responsibilities.

Saturday, March 2; 8:30 am - 11:45 am - "Court and the Classroom," a discussion of
the impact of landmark Supreme Court decisions on American public
education.  Note that this session includes an option to earn 3 graduate
credits in partnership the School of Professional Development at Stony
Brook University (tuition applies).  If you want more information about
