TERRY SCHEID

Retired NYSBA Bar Services Coordinator

Terry Scheid, the retired Bar Services Coordinator for NYSBA, was honored with presentations and gifts from her colleagues and NYSBA President Vince Buzzard at the spring conference of bar leaders in Manhattan.

As Bar Services Coordinator, Terry was the official liaison to the Conference of Bar Leaders, to local and specialty bar associations in the state, and to the state bar association’s Young Lawyers Section. To honor her for her many years of service, the Young Lawyer’s Section established the “Terry S. Scheid Award for Outstanding Service” to that section. Terry has also been very active in the National Association of Bar Executives.

Attorneys and staff working on local and specialty bar association matters relied on Terry’s advice and counsel in innumerable areas over many years. Terry joined the state bar association staff in 1984. Prior to that time, Terry had worked as deputy Town Clerk in Catskill and a secretary for Catskill Central School District.

We are proud to honor Terry for her “Outstanding Leadership” and contributions to the Executive Council and New York State Conference of Bar Leaders.

HELEN DRUCE

Retired Executive Director, Onondaga County Bar Association

After 20 years, 20 Presidents, and 20 Board of Directors, Helen Druce retired at the end of 2006 as Executive Director of the Onondaga County Bar Association in Syracuse. Helen is a former chair of our Bar Executives' Committee and a long time supporter of NYCBL activities and programs.

While at the NYSCBL conference in Albany on October 26, 2006, she was recognized by Kathy Bifaro of the Bar Association of Erie County, Mary Corbitt of the Monroe County Bar Association, and Pat Bucklin of NYSBA. They spoke on behalf of the executive directors and thanked Helen for her friendship, mentorship, and support of the Conference of Bar Leaders.

In Syracuse, Helen was honored at the annual Holiday Luncheon of the Onondaga County Bar Assoc. on December 14. Over 450 guests assembled for the occasion, including bar execs from Albany, Atlanta, Buffalo, Chicago, Rochester, Toledo and Utica. NYSBA Past-President Cathy Richardson and Vice-Pres. Denny Baldwin, who had hired Helen back in 1986, entertained the many attendees with a humorous, power point presentation on Helen, her family, and her many community accomplishments. OCBA Past-Presidents serenaded Helen with a special song.

Helen’s career is filled with membership, dedication and service, too numerous to name. However, she was also instrumental in creating the New Justice Dispute Resolution Services, where she served as President from 1980 to 1983 and still serves as a director.

We are proud to recognize Helen Druce for her commitment to service and dedication to NYSCBL.
