 Judicial Section Biographies
PAUL G. FEINMAN was elected a Justice of the New
York State Supreme Court in 2007. He previously served as a
Justice of that court by designation (2004 - 2007), and as a Judge of
the Civil Court of the City of New York (1997 - 2003). Justice
Feinman has served on the statewide Jury Trial Innovation Project, the
Judicial Institute's Civil Law Advisory Committee, the New York County
Supreme Court's Anti-Bias and Tort Adivsory Committees.
Prior to being elected to the bench, Justice Feinman served as
principal law clerk to Justice Angela M. Mazzarelli (1989 - 1996), as a
senior staff attorney of the Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense
Division, in Manhattan (1987 - 1989) and as a staff attorney of the
Nassau County Legal Aid Society, Appeals Bureau (1985 - 1987).
Throughout Justice Feinman's career, he has been active in numerous
judicial and professional associations, including the New York State Bar
Association where he currently serves as the Presiding Member of the
Judical Section Executive Committee. He is also currently
Recording Secretary of the Supreme Court Justices Association of the
City of New York, the Treasurer of the Board of Justices of the First
Judicial District, and the President of the International Association of
Lesbian and Gay Judges.
Justice Feinman received his B.A. from Columbia College, Columbia
University in 1981 and his J.D. From the University of Minnesota Law
School in 1985. He has also studied at the Université de Paris and the Université
de Lyon in France.
