DO YOU HAVE A PROHIBITED INTEREST IN A CONTRACT WITH A
MUNICIPALITY?
The New York State ethics law,
found in Article 18 of the General Municipal Law, prohibits officers and
employees of municipalities in New York State from having an interest in
a contract with the municipality if the officer or employee, in his or
her official capacity, has any control over that contract, with certain
exceptions. Even if the interest is not prohibited, it may still need to
be publicly disclosed. Unfortunately, determining whether one has a
prohibited interest in a contract can be quite complicated. By leading
you through a series of yes/no questions, this interactive program will
enable you to make that determination simply and easily.
