Community Service and Pro Bono Committee

The Committee on Public Service and Pro Bono is responsible for planning and  coordinating opportunities for the Young Lawyers Section and its membership to participate in public service and pro bono initiatives.

A Message from your Committee Chair, Michael L. Fox, Esq. -

Welcome to the Web site for the Community Service & Pro Bono Committee!

It is my hope that this Web site will provide a source of information for both members and non-members of the Young Lawyers Section on topics including: resources for those wishing to learn more about pro bono legal representation, public service opportunities available for young attorneys, and programs intended to educate young attorneys about pro bono and public service law.  From time to time we will post updates regarding professional resources and ideas, as well as upcoming programs and events.

Recently, the Committee, in coordination with the Law, Youth & Citizenship Committee, reviewed and edited the publication "Now That You've Turned 18". As stated in the booklet, the publication "is being provided to give young adults an overview of their basic legal rights and responsibilities." But, the booklet is intended for informational purposes only, and is not intended to provide legal counsel or advice. The Second Edition of the booklet is currently available as a PDF via a link on this Young Lawyers Section Web site (on the left side of this screen). Printed booklets are also available by contacting Megan O'Toole, Young Lawyers Section Staff Liaison.

I hope that you find this Web site both helpful and informative, and that you will visit often.  The Committee welcomes any comments or suggestions you may have concerning how to make the format or content of this page more useful or more user friendly.  And, if you are interested in becoming a Committee member, please let us know.  You can contact me at mfox10@hotmail.com, or Megan O'Toole, YLS Staff Liaison, in Albany at (518) 487-5743, or via email at motoole@nysba.org.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Fox, Esq.
