Jon L. Schumacher of Rochester was honored with the Chair's Award, given by the Trusts and Estates Section of the New York State Bar Association.
A senior counsel to Nixon Peabody, Schumacher was recognized for his service and leadership to the section and State Bar.
"Jon Schumacher has a long proud history with the Trusts and Estates Section. He is a true leader and always willing to lead the debate. Whenever a difficult issue arises, we turn to Jon for guidance," said Elizabeth A. Hartnett of Syracuse (Mackenzie Hughes), immediate past chair of the Trusts and Estates Section. "We are pleased to honor his many contributions to our section."
Schumacher chaired the Trusts and Estates Section from 1997 to 1998. He is an honorary member of the section's executive committee. He concentrates his law practice on estate planning and administration, as well as federal and state income, estate, generation-skipping, and gift taxation.
A past president of the Monroe County Bar Foundation, he is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia Law School.
The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
