July 10, 2013: The New York Bar Foundation Announces New Officers and Board Members

The New York Bar Foundation has elected two officers and five new members to its Board of Directors.

Lesley Friedman Rosenthal, of Manhattan, Vice-President. Rosenthal is the vice-president, general counsel and secretary of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. She chairs the Cy Pres committee of The New York Bar Foundation, as well as Charity Corps: Lawyers Helping Nonprofits, an initiative of the New York State Bar Association and the State Attorney General’s Office Charities Bureau. She previously chaired the State Bar Association’s Commercial and Federal Litigation Section. She is the author of “Good Counsel: Meeting the Legal Needs of Non-Profits.” She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned her law degree from Harvard Law School.

Lucia B. Whisenand, of Syracuse, Assistant-Secretary. Whisenand is a retired lawyer. She chairs the Newsletter Committee of The New York Bar Foundation. She previously chaired the State Bar Association’s Committee on Children and the Law and received its Howard A. Levine Award for Excellence in Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare in 1998. She is a member of the New York State Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children. She graduated from Connecticut College and earned her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.

Hon. Ralph A. Boniello, III, of Niagara Falls, Board Member. Boniello is a justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District. He is president-elect of the New York State Supreme Court Justices Association. He is a past president of the Niagara County Bar Association. He graduated from Ohio University and earned his law degree from the University at Buffalo Law School.

John H. Gross, of Hauppauge, Board Member. Gross is a partner of Ingerman Smith. He served as a vice-president on the 10th Judicial District of the State Bar Association’s Executive Committee.  He is a member of the State Bar Association’s House of Delegates and Dispute Resolution and Labor and Employment Law sections. He is a past president of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He graduated from Cornell University and Cornell Law School.

William J. Keniry, of Albany, Board Member. Keniry is a partner of Tabner, Ryan and Keniry. He previously chaired the State Bar Association’s Trial Lawyers Section. He was chairman of the Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department Committee on Professional Standards. He graduated from Union College and earned his law degree from Albany Law School.

Edwina Frances Martin, of Staten Island, Board Member. Martin is the legislative and budget director for New York City Councilwoman Debi Rose (49th Council District). She is a member-at-large on the State Bar Association’s Executive Committee. She co-chairs the State Bar Association’s Committee on Legal Aid and the Steven C. Krane Special Committee on Student Loan Assistance in the Public Interest. She graduated from Williams College and earned her law degree from New York University Law School.

Elizabeth J. McDonald, of Rochester, Board Member. McDonald is the senior court attorney for Rochester City Court Supervising Judge Teresa D. Johnson and Rochester City Court Judge Thomas R. Morse. She is a member of the State Bar Association’s House of Delegates and treasurer of its Senior Lawyers Section. She graduated from Elmira College and earned her law degree from Albany Law School.

The New York Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the New York State Bar Association. It supports the law-related programs of local legal services agencies, nonprofits, bar associations and other organizations throughout New York state. It awards grants applying 100 percent of the funds contributed.
