Richard Mattiaccio is a partner in, Squire Sanders, a global firm. He is
the firm’s New York office leader for litigation and co-leader of its New York
international dispute resolution practice.
The focus of Mr. Mattiaccio’s practice for the past 30 years has been on
cross-border disputes arising from long-term commercial supply contracts;
intellectual property rights; licensing arrangements; shareholder and
partnership agreements; hedge fund and other investor relationships; energy
supply and services contracts; manufacturing, distribution, franchising and
retailing agreements; and executive employment contracts. Mr. Mattiaccio has
represented claimants and respondents in international, commercial and large
complex cases administered under American Arbitration Association (AAA),
International Centre of Dispute Resolution (ICDR), ICC International Court of
Arbitration (ICC) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law
(UNCITRAL) rules. Bi-lingual in Italian, Mr. Mattiaccio also has acted as
counsel in Italian-language arbitration in Milan governed by local arbitration
rules and New York substantive law.
Mr. Mattiaccio has served since the1980’s as a panel arbitrator with the
AAA and/or ICDR under their international, commercial and complex commercial
rules. He is a panel mediator for the Commercial Division, New York County and
for the Southern District of New York. He has been a member of a number of CPR
Mr. Mattiaccio is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators
(CCA), serves on the executive committee of the board of directors of the New
York International Arbitration Center, Inc. (NYIAC) and as chair of its
contracts committee, and is a member of the International Arbitration Club of
Mr. Mattiaccio serves as co-chair of the International Dispute
Resolution (IDR) Committee of the Dispute Resolution Section of NYSBA and as a
member of the DR Section’s Executive Committee.
He is a member of the International Commercial Disputes Committee (ICDC)
of the New York City Bar Association, and a member and former co-chair of City
Bar’s In House/Outside Litigation Counsel Group. Mr. Mattiaccio has served on a
number of NYSBA and City Bar committees related to arbitration, litigation,
ethics and professional discipline, and judicial selection.
Mr. Mattiaccio is a founding co-chair of the Federal Circuit Bar
Association’s Friedman Memorial Committee and of its annual lecture on
appellate advocacy named for Circuit Judge Daniel M. Friedman, for whom Mr.
Mattiaccio clerked during former Acting Solicitor General Friedman’s first year
on the bench.
Mattiaccio is a Bronx-born New Yorker and a graduate of Columbia Law School
(J.D. 1978), Columbia College (B.A.1975), and the Fordham Preparatory
School. He is a member in good standing
of the bar of the State of New York since 1979 and is admitted to practice in
the federal courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the
Second and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
