Empowering Women in the Marketplace - Speaking Out in the
Agora
This panel will address the professional life of women
lawyers, providing analysis on how to influence and participate in
the marketplace – working, holding office, taking leadership
positions, speaking. Women who are confident in the agora and who have
achieved success in the profession will address communication skills,
including public speaking. The goal of the panel is to inspire and
educate more women to participate in public life, and to shed light
on why this may still be difficult for some women, despite the thrilling
gains of the last few decades.

3:25-4:15 Re-Entry/Entry into the
Profession: A New Beginning . . . A Fresh Start
Entry and Reentry – two different stages in the
span of a legal career that may seem to have little in common, but each
one can be an exciting, challenging and intimidating time for an
attorney. Those entering practice may be asking, "What's really expected
of me?" "What substantive and social challenges await me?" And,
“what can I learn from others that might ease this first stage of
my career?”
The re-entry process raises similar questions. Many
attorneys leave the profession for a while for a variety of reasons,
including child-rearing, elder-care, or to follow different professional
pursuits. A number of those attorneys decide that they would like to
return to practice or use their law degree in an alternative way.
Understandably, they wonder: How do I refresh my legal skills? Will
anyone want to hire me? How do I look for a job? How do I get started in
this process? This panel will address these questions, providing
guidance on navigating entry and re-entry.

4:15-5:05 Dealing with
Difficult People: Practical Tips for Eliminating Conflict
and Reducing Stress
In the business world, the opportunity to choose the
colleague, employee, peer or advisor is rare. It is a challenge to
communicate with a person whose very presence creates stress, causes
anxiety, and impacts your work.
What defines a difficult person and how does one work
productively with difficult people? This panel will answers those
questions and many more. The panelists will give examples and address
personality traits associated with difficult people. Additionally, the
panel will focus on: 1) best practices for communicating with difficult
people; 2) suggestions for getting the best results from a difficult
person; 3) examples of how to determine when it's time to move beyond
trying to make the relationship work; and 4) what action plans must be
considered.
