Presidential Summit: Civics Convocation
Wednesday, January 20 | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The focus of this year’s Presidential Summit is Safeguarding Democracy and the Rule of Law: What Lawyers Need to Know about Educating the Next Generation. Attendees will enjoy a keynote speech from a Tony award nominated actress and playwright, along with two panels offering deeper discussion into civic education.
The first panel, America at 250: A Discussion on our National Civic and Constitutional Life, will focus on where were currently are with civics education and how we arrived here. The second panel, Civic Education for the Modern Student – What Does it Look Like, will explore the state’s current approach to student civic education, whether it can be taught in a way that enhances critical thinking rather than polarizing citizens, and how teachers can comfortably teach controversial topics.

Presidential Gala

The evening will open with a vibrant cocktail reception, followed by an elegant dinner. The extraordinary Cheryl Wills, award‑winning journalist, author, and celebrated NY1 anchor, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. The highlight of this black‑tie celebration will be the presentation of the Gold Medal Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Association.
