The New York State Bar Association’s Health Law Section, in collaboration with Albany Law School and Fordham Law School, will host a half-day symposium to kick off an extended project exploring the state of the industry and the law affecting:  Electronic Health Records (EHRs) across provider types and payor systems; integration of Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) and Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs), including the State Health Information Network of New York (SHIN-NY); and the changing role of health research and data (including data generation, management and interpretation).

These areas are of increasing importance both in understanding the breadth and impact of federal and state health laws on health systems and systems innovation and how research and data may inform health law and policy as well as clinical practice.

At the June 28 kick-off event, Albany Law School will host a half-day CLE program, and a live webcast of the program is available. Speakers will explore EHRs and the E-Health Exchange from the perspective of:

health care providers

  • health plans and other health care payors
  • data aggregators such as RHIOs and the SHIN-NY; and
  • ethical issues involving EHR use and misuse
