Women on the Move 2016

Total Credits: 3.0 (Professional Practice 3.0, Ethics 1.0)
The Women on the Move is a Continuing Legal Education program focusing on an array of topics of particular interest to women attorneys. This year’s program theme is Exposure, Evidence and Ethics--Social Media’s 21st Century Role in Lawyering. Distinguished panelists and speakers will share their experiences and valuable insights on social media and evidence. Exposure and your presence on social media outlets enhances the visibility of one’s law practice. This is an important aspect of each attorney’s overall marketing strategy. However, with this changing marketing landscape comes imposing ethical questions, unseen pitfalls and important considerations regarding appropriateness of advertisement, exposure to ethical violations and the unintended advice relied upon to another’s detriment. Our panel of experts will provide information and updates on the ever changing ethical rules involving the use of social media and the law. Issues covered will include how to get topical exposure while promoting your practice without running afoul of ethical rules. This program then pivots to explore the use of the internet and social media for evidentiary purposes. The program will address issues that can arise and practical solutions to assure admissibility and how to improve the chain of custody for content gathered on social media, from e-mails, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. This type of evidence is becoming increasingly important in matrimonial, personal injury, cyber bullying, harassment and civil rights cases. Lastly, we will explore the Internet of Things phenenom (IoT), specifically considering how to counsel your clients thoughtfully through the implications of wearable devices that are able to collect and transmit data via the Internet. This program has experts teaching how to use the internet as a platform and a resource for your practice in an effective and ethical way as well as discussing cutting edge issues and challenges presented with the Internet.
