Embracing Optimism in a Profession Where Pessimism is Prudent –  What Law Firms Can Do

Tuesday, September 30, 2014 | 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
CLE Webcast and Live Program
State Bar Center | Great Hall

2.0 MCLE Credits in Ethics & Professionalism

This program will examine the best practices for greater career and life satisfaction; you really can’t have one without the other. The speakers will share the vital interplay among personal autonomy, competence and connection with others as the condition precedent for overall wellbeing. The program will review the surprising results of a seminal study on lawyer wellbeing, the science behind positive psychology and the implications for our lives and practices along with practical steps for incorporating these insights in our lives.

The Happy and Productive Lawyer
After years of identifying the signs and symptoms of alcoholism, depression, stress and all of what lawyers should be aware of and avoid, it is time for a new and more positive perspective. What if we looked at the underlying causes and conditions of happiness and wellbeing? The first thing we would discover is that there is a significant and growing body of scientific evidence that can point us in the direction of leading more satisfying and productive personal and professional lives. Let’s move toward good health instead of running from dis-EASE.

Sponsored by the Law Practice Management Committee, the Lawyer Assistance Committee and the Committee on Continuing Legal Education of the New York State Bar Association.
