Security Risks from Employees and Vendors; FTC Enforcement (5:00 p.m. – 5:50 p.m.)
Some of the most serious security risks are right under a company's nose. Employees and vendors are granted access to many sensitive systems and data, but a failure to limit, control and monitor such access can have devastating consequences. This session will examine how to effectively operate a vendor management program and how to satisfy, yet control, the desire of employees to access social media and bring their own device to work. In addition, there have now been over 50 security based FTC enforcement actions. Each one offers great guidance on best practices and shortcomings that are likely to result in liability.
- Panel Chair: Gary Kibel, Esq. (Davis & Gilbert LLP)

We’ve All Been Hacked! Now What? (6:00 p.m. – 6:50 p.m.)
Recent developments and revelations in the news have highlighted the threats posed on a range of fronts to American businesses in the area of privacy and cyber-security. Yet beyond attention-grabbing headlines, there is scant analysis to put this problem into context and to provide concrete analysis and solutions to this seemingly amorphous issue. Every company holds data. And every company uses computers. But what are the implications if every company has had its computers hacked? This session will address the subject of privacy and data security in a “post-Target,” “post-Snowden” world; why it matters; and what a corporations and their in-house counsel should be doing about it.
- Panel Chair and moderator: Joseph DeMarco, Esq. (Partner, DeVore & DeMarco, LLP)
- Panelists: Matthew Siano ( General Counsel, Two Sigma Investments, LLC), James Philbin (General Counsel, Maersk USA); additional panelists TBA.
