2:10—3.25 p.m. The General Data Protection Regulation: Emerging Trends, Issues and Global Developments (1.5 Credit in Area of Professional Practice)
After a lengthy lead-in period, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) became effective in May 2018. The GDPR not only establishes a unified set of data protection rules that can affect business worldwide, but also is spurring development of data protection laws and standards among nations across the globe.  Its also having a significant affect in the US too as US corporations struggle with their GDPR requirements - especially in connection with data breaches.  

This panel will explore the impact the GDPR has had since its effective date, and look at what might happen in the future.  The panel will talk about some of the most significant cases and investigations under GDPR and look at how Asia and South America are following Europe's lead.

Diversity in a global marketplace can mean different things in different regions, but no matter where on the globe we live and work, individuals who associate with one or more protected groups should expect recognition and advancement in the workplace to be based on merit and not their gender, race, sexual identity, or religion. And, no workplace environment should tolerate harassment, hostility, or implicit bias.

While these concerns know no borders, cultural differences can affect recognizing and addressing them. The panel will explore these issues and cross-border challenges as well as invite participants to join the discussion on how diversity can create innovation and strengthen your practice.
