Highlights of the January 2013 House of Delegates Meeting:
• The House elected the 2013-2014
officers and members-at-large of the Executive Committee.
• Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman presented a memorial to
Honorable Theodore T. Jones, Jr., Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, who
passed away in November 2012. IN addition, he addressed the House with respect
to the status of Unified Court System initiatives.
• The Ruth G. Schapiro Award was
presented to Kathryn Grant Madigan, past president of the
Association.
• The House approved a report from the
Committee to Ensure Quality of Mandated Representation to incorporate conflict
defender standards into the NYSBA Standards for Providing Mandated
Representation.
• The House approved the report and
recommendations of the Special Committee on Voter Participation with respect to
increasing voter registration and improving the voting process.
• The House approved the report and
recommendations of the Task Force on Family Court relating to measures that
would enable Family Court to better meet the demands placed upon it.
• The House approved the report and
recommendations of the Committee on Civil Rights to limit the use of solitary
confinement in New York correctional facilities.
• The House approved amendments to the
Association’s Lawyer Referral Service Plan and the Guidelines of the Committee
to Review Judicial Nominations.
