November 3, 2017: New York State Bar Association Urges 'Yes' Vote on Constitutional Convention

New York State Bar Association President Sharon Stern Gerstman and members of the Association’s Executive Committee gathered today to urge New Yorkers to vote “yes” for a constitutional convention on Election Day, November 7:

“We have the opportunity to modernize our broken and outdated state Constitution by voting ‘yes’ for a constitutional convention on Election Day.

“The question whether to hold a convention appears on the ballot every 20 years for good reason—our Constitution was not designed to last for the ages or changing times. It was intended to be amended by each generation.

“Your ‘yes’ vote will provide the opportunity to streamline the state’s confusing court system and modernize New York’s election process—improvements the Association has long supported.

“New Yorkers have a rare opportunity to bring New York government into the 21st century. We should not miss this chance. Join me in casting a ‘yes’ vote at the polls on Election Day, November 7 and encourage your friends and family to do the same.”

Note: The question, Proposition 1, is located on the back of the ballot, so remember to flip over the ballot to cast your ‘yes’ vote.
