THE HONORABLE JUDITH S. KAYE COMMERCIAL AND FEDERAL LITIGATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Commercial and Federal Litigation Section is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for its 2017 Honorable Judith Kaye Commercial and Federal Litigation Scholarship, which has been established by the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). The scholarship(s) will be awarded to up to five female litigators and will cover the cost of their registration at the 2019 Commercial Litigation Academy (“Litigation Academy”), which will take place in the spring of 2019. The goal of the Scholarship is help increase the number of women prepared to serve as first chair in large commercial cases. The Litigation Academy is sponsored by the NYSBA and the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section.
Each “Kaye Scholar” will receive her award on November 15, 2017 during a program that will take place in the Ceremonial Courtroom at the Southern District of New York in conjunction with the presentation of the Shira A. Scheindlin Award for Excellence in the Courtroom to female litigators who have had distinguished career in the courtroom in either the Federal or State Courts in New York and who have shown a commitment to mentoring young attorneys. The 2017 recipients of the Award are Patricia Miller of the New York City Department of Law and Linda Clark, a partner with Barclay Damon. A trial practice CLE will be presented and there will also be a social gathering.
Female attorneys who have practiced commercial litigation between two and ten years since their admission to the New York State bar, and who remain in good standing.
Scholarship Application Requirements:
To apply, please submit the following:
1. A two page letter stating why you
should be selected as a Kaye Scholar and how receiving this scholarship would
benefit your career.
2. A resume.
Payment of Scholarship:
The scholarship will be applied to the recipients’ full registration fee for the 2019 Commercial Litigation Academy to be held in the spring of 2019 in Manhattan.
Recipients will also receive complimentary admission to the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section’s “Evening at Thurgood Marshall Courthouse,” which will take place at 5:30pm on January 23, 2018, and the Section’s 2018 Annual Meeting CLE programs, social hour and luncheon, which take place on January 24, 2018.
The application and supporting documents must be postmarked, if mailed, on or before Friday, October 13, 2017 or emailed by 4:00pm on Friday, October 13, 2017.
Recipients of the Kaye Scholarship will be based on the following factors:
- Content of letter
- Quality of written expression
- Work and other experience
- Any other relevant factors
Recipients must attend the November 15, 2017 event when the scholarships will be awarded.
