This program is for attorneys who are interested in assisting Veterans with their claims and appeals for Veterans’ benefits. The Veterans Administration (VA) requires that any attorney assisting a Veteran with VA benefits obtain and maintain VA Accreditation. Both VA accredited attorneys and attorneys who are not yet accredited to practice at the VA but are interested in becoming accredited or learning more about Veterans’ Law are encouraged to attend.

This program will provide an overview of the VA system and benefits, will discuss how to navigate the VA process, how and when to file an appeal, how to meet the requisite evidentiary standards for the specific benefit, how procedure may be changing or may have recently changed, and how this affects the practice. This program complies with the CLE requirements for the initial year accreditation set forth under 38 C.F.R. § 14.629 and for the ongoing biannual recertification for VA accredited attorneys.

Sponsored by the Committee on Veterans, the Business Law Section, the Corporate Counsel Section and the Committee on Continuing Legal Education of the New York State Bar Association and by the Westchester County Bar Association and USI Affinity.

Ethics for Corporate Counsel 2018

NYSBA Member: $175

Program Description
The Corporate Counsel Section continues its series of well-received, timely programs on ethical issues facing attorneys working for corporations and other business entities. With in-house counsel facing greater scrutiny and regulation on both the federal and state level, it is necessary for corporate counsel to be fluent in both the regulatory rules applicable to the corporations and business entities they represent as well as the rules governing the practice of law by corporate counsel. This program will assist in-house attorneys and other corporate attorneys in understanding and applying their ethical and legal obligations.

A panel of experts will explore ethical issues of particular concern to corporate counsel including emerging topics and recent issues, supervision of employed attorneys in the corporate legal department, ethical issues arising from recent trends such as the "Me Too" Movement, law enforcement raids and seizure of attorney files, and new developments affecting the attorney-client privilege.

Sponsored by the Committee on Continuing Legal Education and the Corporate Counsel Section.
